Transcript of the third episode of the Bright Falls mini-series "Lights Out".

Transcript

[The episode opens with an upward shot of the forest sky. The camera shifts to a close-up of Jake Fischer's eye opening and looking at the trees and the sky. Jake sits up on the ground and, as he cleans himself, notices that his hands are covered with reddish mud. Daniel Smith watches him from afar. Jake notices Daniel watching him and the boy runs away]

Jake Fischer: Hey, wait!

[Jake stands up]

Sam Smith: [calling from distance] Daniel!

[Jake turns around and sees that he is near the Mountain Air Motel. The scene cuts to Jake driving through Bright Falls. Cut again to a table filled with photographs and a magazine reading "Alan's Wake". A group of people, among them Ellen Adams, laugh as one of them makes funny gestures. Jake enters the building. Ellen sees him and walks over to him]

Ellen Adams: Hey!

Jake Fischer: Hey! Um, can I talk to you for a second?

Ellen Adams: Sure.

Jake Fischer: Somewhere private?

Ellen Adams: Okay.

[The two walk over to another room. Cut to Jake and Ellen sitting at a table while the latter examines the former's notepad]

Ellen Adams: Didn't Hartman say anything?

Jake Fischer: I don't think he knew. And this morning, I, uh, woke up in the woods.

Jake Fischer: And my arms were just... all covered in this, like, red mud.

Ellen Adams: So what do you think happened? Making pottery in your sleep?

Jake Fischer: No, I woke up in the woods.

Ellen Adams: Listen... sometimes staying out here just gets into your head.

Jake Fischer: Well, I'm done with this story.

Ellen Adams: I know.

[Outside, Jake and Ellen exit The Bright Falls Record office]

Ellen Adams: Call me if you need anything?

Jake Fischer: Thanks.

[The two hug. Jake walks back to his car]

Ellen Adams: You know, you're right. When you're done with your story, you should really go. Get back home, clear your head.

Jake Fischer: That's why I came here, Ellen.

Ellen Adams: I think you should leave.

[Jake stares at her in confusion. A train horn is heard. The scene cuts to the Mountain Air Motel; Sam and Daniel walk towards the lobby, carrying a mop and a bucket respectively. The two hear the sound of glass breaking and stop. Sam nods at his son; the boy runs away. Sam walks to the back of the motel and sees that a pair of light bulbs are broken. He throws one of them on a trash can filled with more similarly broken light bulbs. He stands on a small stair and tries to put a replacement bulb on the socket, but his arm cannot reach it. Feeling pain, he adjusts his orthopedic belt. Sam hears a noise and turns around towards the woods. In the lobby, Daniel is carrying a hunting vest. Sam walks in, takes off his jacket, sits down and is helped by son to put on the hunting vest before putting his jacket back on. He walks over to a table, picks up a shotgun and checks to see if it is loaded. Outside the lobby, as dusk falls, Sam steps out with his shotgun and, as Daniel watches from a window, walks to the woods behind the motel. Sam walks through the woods before stopping and firing his shotgun. He opens the shotgun to reload - the spent shell ejects and falls behind him - but a noise interrupts him. Sam backs away, but trips over the discarded shell and falls to the ground. Sam looks at his legs. He leans back and begins to laugh softly. The laugh becomes frantic. Suddenly, he is dragged away, with camera following for a moment before coming to a halt]
