Transcript of the fourth episode of the Bright Falls mini-series "Local Flavor".

Transcript

[The episode opens with a close-up of the ceiling light of a local general store. The storekeeper is looking at a note; Jake Fischer at the counter in front of him]

Ralph: I'm gonna have to send out for this.

Jake Fischer: How long?

Ralph: Oh... Three… four… six days.

[In the background, Ben Mott enters the store and looks at some of the shelves]

Jake Fischer: Six days? Nothing overnight?

Ralph: Well, if I can get Mary Beth to get Joe to make his rounds up to Fern Ridge for Tuesday… And that's depending on the weather at that elevation, of course.

[Jake remains silent. Without a word, Ralph opens the cash register and Jake hands him a roll of duct tape. The scene cuts to Jake's car - its damaged left front end partially patched with duct tape - arriving at the Oh Deer Diner parking lot. Jake exits the vehicle. Shel Dyck is throwing rocks at a lamppost while screaming fiercely. A police car arrives, its siren blaring. As he walks to the diner, Jake stops at the sound of this and turns around. Deputy Mulligan gets out of his car]

Mulligan: Shel? My god, you're looking-

[Shel throws a rock at Deputy Mulligan]

Mulligan: [Approaching her] Shel!

[Deputy Mulligan attempts to restrain Shel, who keeps screaming fiercely as Jake continues to watch]

Mulligan: [As he forces her to the ground and struggles to handcuff her] Shel!

[Shel bites Deputy Mulligan's left hand; he screams. Inside the diner, the television plays a news segment about Alan Wake as he tries to make his way through a group of paparazzi]

Reporter: Wake allegedly caused 30,000 in equipment damages.

[Jake enters the diner. Rose Marigold is standing behind the counter]

Rose Marigold: You alright?

Jake Fischer: Some woman just… bit a cop in the parking line.

Rose Marigold: What?

[Jake and Rose walk over to the window and peer outside. The parking lot outside is now empty. Visibly confused, Jake sits down at the table]

Rose Marigold: You don't look so good, Jake.

[Rose sees the police car stopping outside the diner, right next to the window, while Jake remains lost in thought, unaware of this; Deputy Mulligan rushes out of the car as Rose walks over to the entrance. Jake glances out the window and sees Shel locked in the backseat, thrashing furiously against the car’s interior. Deputy Mulligan enters the diner, holding his wounded left hand to control the bleeding. Jake's attention turns to this]

Mulligan: Woman's like a feral animal! Give me a towel!

[Rose hands Mulligan a towel as he also grabs a stack of napkins]

Mulligan: Give me some wet!

[Jake hears a gunshot and turns his attention to the diner's television. A commercial for Deerfest begins to play, featuring a deer whose eyes widen in surprise in a cartoonish way. The ad transitions a scene of people in a carnival ride]

Narrator: Deerfest. Bright Falls world famous buckstravaganza featuring Stag Party and the Doughboys!

[Jake stares at the television. The commercial shows a group of musicians, with the caption "Music", then cuts to people playing at fair games, with the caption "Fun"]

Narrator: Admission is only a buck. So come back and come hungry and don't come alone.

[The commercial cuts to a crosshair aimed at a deer, with the caption "Bring a Buck Get in Free". When the trigger is pulled, the screen flashes red and the text now reads "Bring a Dead Buck Get in Free"]

Narrator: It's a feast for the senses at Deerfest.

[There is a close-up of Jake's eye. A series of visions follows: a kid, whose face is not shown, walking backwards in the woods; Jake's car screeching on the road; Sam Smith being dragged away, accompanied with the sound of a car crashing; Sam's right hand lying motionless on the ground; the light of an approaching vehicle on the road, interspersed with a deer walking on the road; the ceiling fan on Jake's motel room; the woods with what seems to dogs barking; the surface of Cauldron Lake (as seen in the opening scene of episode one); the lights of a police car illuminating the road at night with the deep sound of a heartbeat. The scene gradually fades to Jake's eye in the dark. He is inside a partially open body bag. He slowly sits up and looks at his surroundings. A light beams from the lake, illuminating his face. Jake recoils in pain and crawls away from the scene, hiding behind a tree]
