Transcript

[The episode opens with a shot of the sky that descends to reveal Deputy Mulligan arriving at the Mountain Air Motel in his patrol car. Inside his wrecked motel room, Jake Fischer hurriedly packs his bag, but he stops abruptly when he hears a knock on the door. He opens it halfway and sees Mulligan standing outside]

Jake Fischer: Can I help you?

Mulligan: Have you been in contact with the, uh, owner of this motel?

Jake Fischer: Sam?

[Mulligan nods]

Jake Fischer: No I haven't seen him in a couple of days.

Mulligan: He's gone missing. Found his boy in the woods looking for him. You mind?

[Mulligan enters the room]

Jake Fischer: Um, sure.

[Jake closes the door. An astonished Deputy Mulligan looks at the room]

Mulligan: Well isn't this particular?

Jake Fischer: Well, I'm from the city, you know, and, uh...

[Mulligan picks up a tea cup from a chair]

Jake Fischer: It's gonna sound kind of stupid but I, uh, I left the door open last night.

[Mulligan throws some broken pieces off the cup]

Jake Fischer: And, uh, some kind of wild animal must've… came in here.

[Mulligan spits on the cup]

Mulligan: No squirrel animal did this.

[Mulligan touches a piece of destroyed furniture]

Mulligan: These are the markings of what I'd say... a fourteen point stag. Yeah. [Pointing at a destroyed wooden wall] See the pattern?

[Jake nods]

Mulligan: Cut and buck. [Pointing at the holes in a piece of insulating wool] Horned rimmed entry points. [pause] You had a trophy deer here, you know that?

[Jake nods slightly]

Mulligan: Imperial. Would've fetched ol' Sam hell of a prize.

[Mulligan walks over to the door; Jake opens it]

Mulligan: Yeah. Is too bad he flew the coup. Probably on some bender. He's got a baaad habit.

[Mulligan spits on the cup]

Mulligan: Boys are gonna love this.

[Mulligan hands Jake the cup and leaves. Jake closes the door. The scene cuts to an agitated Jake driving along a wooded road. Outside the Bright Falls Record, Ellen Adams talking on the phone]

Voice on the phone: So, he has no idea.

[Jake pulls into the parking lot, quickly gets out of the car, and walks over to Ellen]

Voice on the phone: Are you there?

Ellen Adams: [to Jake] What's wrong?

Jake Fischer: I need help. Come with me.

[Jake drags Ellen by the arm to the car]

Ellen Adams: [she stops] You have to tell me what's happening.

Jake Fischer: Just drive.

[The scene cuts to Jake and Ellen in the car as the latter drives through a wooded road]

Ellen Adams: Are you gonna say anything? Where am I even headed?

Jake Fischer: Just get me out.

Ellen Adams: That's it? You just needed a ride out of the town? [pause] Why'd you even come looking for me? You could've just driven it yourself!

[The rearview mirror show that the car has just passed the "Welcome to Bright Falls" sign]

Jake Fischer: No I couldn't have… I'm not in control.

Ellen Adams: What does that mean?

[Jake does not answer.]

Ellen Adams: Jake!?

[Jake turns to her. The scene abruptly changes to Jake driving the car with a blank expression on his face; a song in Portuguese is playing on the radio. He seems to come back to his senses and, confused, looks at the passenger seat. One of Ellen's shoes - stained with blood - lies on the floor. Jake sees the "Welcome to Bright Falls" sign at the side of the road and slams on the brakes, causing the vehicle to skid loudly. When it comes to a complete halt, Jake hits his head on the steering wheel. Jake sits stunned and looks at the empty road in front of him before he turns his gaze to a Deerfest sign. Jake takes his hand off the steering wheel before the reflection of the trees silhouettes in the windshield begins to shift more and more rapidly, eventually covering the view of the sky as Jake himself vanishes from the vehicle; at the same time, the day quickly turns to night. The lights of an arriving police car illuminate the vehicle. A flare is lit and placed on the road. In the background, Jake's car is now surrounded by police and emergency vehicles as Deputy Janes signals an approaching car to stop. Alan Wake is driving, accompanied by his wife in the passenger seat. Alan rolls down the window]

Alan Wake: What happened, officer?

Janes: Some guy missed the turn here, probably a deer or something. Just be careful through this next section of road.

Alan Wake: Okay, thanks.

[The car drives away as the camera pans down to the road. The image slowly fades to black]
