Spiders are a new enemy added in Alan Wake's American Nightmare. According to a manuscript page, whilst they are a form of Taken, they're a side effect, "a part of the Dark Place's less significant fauna that has managed to slip through the opening".

They can be killed by either burning them away with light or shooting them, but it's not so easy as they are always in groups.

Behind the Scenes

• Spiders share several sounds with the Birdman, as well as reusing some of the ones used for the Ravens in the first Alan Wake game.

Trivia

• There is an avatar prop of a spider avalible in the Xbox marketplace.
• The spiders are the smallest individual enemies to appear in the series, excluding the puddles of liquid darkness and the birds who are always fought as flocks.
• The Spiders, along with the Poltergeist Objects, are the only enemy type in Alan Wake's American Nightmare who do not appear in the Fight 'Till Dawn mode.
