The Submachine Gun or SMG for short is a new weapon found in Alan Wake's American Nightmare. It takes 3 manuscript pages to unlock and can first be found outside of the hotel at the rest stop.
In-Game Description
The SMG pumps out bullets at a fantastic rate. Anything stupid enough to get too close to you can expect to get shredded, but keep an eye on your ammunition -- it goes quickly!
Characteristics
The Submachine Gun resembles the real world MAC-11 machine pistol. The SMG in-game has a 30-round magazine and possibly the fastest rate of fire of the game's weapons. Because of this, the Submachine Gun proves to be an especially versatile one-handed weapon. It is the only one-handed weapon to have automatic fire and such a large magazine size. However, the Submachine Gun suffers from a somewhat lengthy reload, as well as rapid ammo consumption. This means it should be used in conjunction with a suitable two handed weapon. The maximum amount of ammo able to be carried for it at a time is 150 (counting the 30 loaded rounds).
Obtaining the Submachine Gun
Obtaining the Submachine gun requires using three manuscript pages to open the weapon crate found at the entrance to the Motel just before meeting Emma Sloan.
Trivia
- When first obtaining the Submachine Gun, Alan remarks "about time I went full auto" referencing the fact that this is chronologically the first obtainable fully automatic weapon in the series.
- The SMG, which resembles a MAC-11, itself a smaller variant of the Ingram MAC-10 may be a possible callback to Remedy's previous game - Max Payne, and its sequel which both featured this type of machine pistol as usable weapons.
