Emergency Boxes are red containers found across the Alan Wake games. Their sole purpose is to re-supply Alan with various items such as ammo, batteries and flares.
Items
In Alan Wake, emergency boxes are spread across the enviorments, usually inside safe havens. Eahc one contains a small, randomized amount of items. Energency boxes cannot be used twice and would remain empty going forward. The amount and types of items are different depending on the difficuly level.
In Alan Wake's American Nightmare, emergency boxes are quite different in both design and function - serving as instant refills of all the ammo types, batteries and flares. They are usually located in the main hub or safest place of each area in the game. Those emergency boxes can also be used multiple times, with a cooldown period between each use.
In Alan Wake 2, emergency boxes function exactly like they did in Alan Wake, giving a randomized amount of resources which can differ depending not only on the difficulty level, but also on the player's current inventory at the moment. Some boxes are also locked, requiring a key item in order to break their locks first. Used emergency boxes will remain open and will not refill regardless of how much the player revisits the area. Only scripted areas, such as boss arenas and overlaps, will contain boxes which can refill after a cooldown period.
