Splitters are a type of Taken introduced in Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

Splitters have no darkness shield, unlike other Taken, but will split into two when exposed to bright light. These halves will split one more time under the same circumstances, progressively getting more agile.

The initial splitter is large, and very similar to an Assault Taken in strength. When exposed to light, he will split into two medium splitter who are similar to Common Taken. Then, each one of them can also split into two smaller splitter who are similar to Flankers. Small splitters cannot split further.

Alan Wake 2

Splitters make a return in Alan Wake 2 as an enemy type called Taken Throwers, only this time when they split off, they still require the darkness to be burned off them before they can be damaged.
